Chamber:
  Cámara de Représentantes del Pueblo

Dates of elections / renewal (from/to):

  3 July 1988
10 July 1988

Purpose of elections:

Elections were held for all the seats in Parliament on the normal expiry of the members' term of office.

Background and outcome of elections:

In August 1987, the Equatorial Guinea Democratic Party (PDGE – Partido Democrático de Guinea Ecuatorial) was founded as the new ruling political party. The new formation was described as a "government party" rather than a "single party", with a prospect that other parties might eventually be sanctioned depending on the country's "experience and stage of development". Legalization of the opposition Progress Party (PPGE) was rejected in June 1988.

After the two rounds of voting, it was reported that 99.2% of the votes cast were in favour of the single official list of PDGE candidates. The President of the Republic is Colonel Teodoro Obiang Nguema and the Prime Minister is Captain Cristino Seriche.
