"Young people should be at the forefront of global change and innovation. Empowered, they can be key agents for development and peace. If, however, they are left on society's margins, all of us will be impoverished. Let us ensure that all young people have every opportunity to participate fully in the lives of their societies."
Kofi Annan, Former UN Secretary-General

In April 2010 the IPU Assembly passed a resolution entitled Youth participation in the democratic process. The resolution aimed to highlight the importance of giving young people a political voice and to promote their knowledge and participation in democratic political activities. A Regional Seminar for parliaments of the Twelve Plus Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will be hosted by the British Group of the IPU. The objective of this seminar is to build on the resolution and identify ways to take the process forward.

The Seminar on Youth Participation in Democracy will take place on 8 and 9 December 2010,
at the Attlee Suite, Portcullis House, in the Palace of Westminster in London.
