Mr. Abdelwahad RADI, former Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives, was elected as President of the IPU for a three-year mandate on 19 October 2011 at the 189th session of the Governing Council of the IPU in Bern. When his term came to an end on 16 October 2014, the Governing Council conferred on him the title of the Honorary President of the IPU.

Personal data and education

  • Born on 4 January 1935 in Salé, where he attended primary school
  • Obtained his high school diploma in Rabat
  • Pursued his tertiary education at the University of Sorbonne, Paris

Student and other associations

  • 1958 to 1960 - General Secretary of the National Union of Moroccan Students in France (UNEM)
  • One of the founders of the Confederation of North African Students
  • 1955 to 1956 - a founding and active member of many social, cultural and trade-union associations
