For two days in May, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea hosted a consultation with Speakers from the G20 countries. Over the years, governments have built and agreed upon a number of high-level commitments on HIV/AIDS and have set ambitious goals to measure the progress achieved. In 2006, 182 countries made a commitment to achieve the goal of universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support by 2010.   [ Full story ... ]

Participants in the Fourth Parliamentary Forum on Shaping the Information Society agreed that the subject of cybersecurity was highly relevant to them. Although widely frowned upon and in spite of measures to combat the shameful practices of child trafficking and child labour, it is worrying to note that die-hard traffickers continue to ply their trade with no regard for the law or life. Parliamentary Forum at LDC IV
More than three quarters of the 880 million people of the least developedConference Poster countries still live in poverty. A new global agreement to help grapple with the needs of 48 least developed countries emerged from a major UN conference last month. The Istanbul Programme of Action contains many policy prescriptions for both LDCs and development partners, while falling short of precise targets and time-bound commitments.     [ Full story ... ]
