For the second year running, the IPU is joining the Geneva Coalition on Anticipatory Science and Diplomacy in organizing Science Diplomacy Week from 8-12 May.
Initiated in 2022 by the Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator Foundation (GESDA), in partnership with 17 academic and diplomatic institutions, Science Diplomacy Week features an intensive programme of dialogue and exchange between the diplomatic and scientific communities.
“Science diplomacy” is becoming a well-established field in which the soft power of science is harnessed to encourage countries to work together, and diplomacy supports scientific progress for the greater good.
Martin Chungong, IPU Secretary General and co-Chair of Science Diplomacy Week, said “I am delighted to open this year’s edition of this important initiative linking science with diplomacy, dialogue and peace. Policy and decision-making must be informed by scientific evidence, over and above politics. That’s why I am also pleased to welcome several members of parliaments among this year’s participants, from Egypt, Ireland and the Philippines.”
