Our impact

The IPU facilitates parliamentary diplomacy and empowers parliaments and parliamentarians to promote peace, democracy and sustainable development around the world. Our work revolves around five strategic objectives:

1. Building effective and empowered parliaments
2. Promoting inclusive and representative parliaments
3. Supporting resilient and innovative parliaments
4. Catalysing collective parliamentary action
5. Strengthening the IPU’s accountability 

The following policy areas have also been identified as priority areas for parliamentary action: climate change; democracy, human rights, gender equality and youth participation; peace and security; and sustainable development for all.
