Nearly every country in the world has some form of parliament. Parliamentary systems fall into two categories: bicameral and unicameral. Out of 190 national parliaments in the world, 78 are bicameral (156 chambers) and 112 are unicameral, making a total of 268 chambers of parliament with some 44,000 members of parliament. Statutes and Rules of the IPU
The Statutes of the IPU contain the rules governing IPU bodies and the Secretariat, the IPU's financial regulations and the practical modalities of the rights and responsibilities of observers at IPU meetings.
They were adopted in 1976, extensively revised in October 1983 and amended in April 2003, October 2013, March 2016, April 2017, March and October 2018, October 2019, November 2020 and May 2021.
