IPU Regional Conference on Eliminating Violence against Women in Politics

-

Summary

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), in cooperation with the parliament of Uruguay, is organizing a Regional Conference on Violence against Women in politics from 3 to 4 December 2026 in Montevideo (Uruguay) for the IPU Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) geopolitical group.

The Regional Conference will bring together parliaments from the Americas and the Caribbean, in particular the IPU Member Parliaments from the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC). To facilitate the sharing of experiences and good practices across regions, parliaments from other regions supported by the IPU in advancing gender equality, and parliaments with good practices on combatting violence against women in politics will also be invited to join the Conference. Women parliamentarians from the IPU Executive Committee, the Bureau of Women Parliamentarians and the Bureau of Young Parliamentarians will also be invited to join the Conference.

This Regional Conference will provide an opportunity for members of parliaments to exchange good practices, review the latest evidence and identify avenues for parliamentary action on violence against women in parliaments.

Unicameral parliaments are invited to send a delegation of up to four members of parliament while bicameral parliaments may send up to eight MPs. Delegations must include at least one male MP and at least one young woman MP (under 40) to attend the Conference. Delegations can include a maximum of two parliamentary staff members.

Only invited parliaments can register a delegation to attend the Regional Conference. The registration link will be provided with the invitation.
