Throughout the year, the IPU and its Members organize many events for parliamentarians to exchange good practices, acquire the latest information and identify avenues for action.
The IPU has been collecting data on parliaments since its inception in 1889, including information on women’s participation in politics since 1945. In this section, discover the IPU's knowledge bank for and about parliaments.

Algiers Algeria
Summary
The proliferation of terrorism in the Sahel has multiple underlying causes, many of which are felt by local communities, and which will require differing responses.
This meeting, for parliamentary members of the IPU High-Level Advisory Group on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism and the Sahel countries, will aim to shed light on the impact of violent extremism on communities and the role that different stakeholders can play in tackling the conditions conducive to terrorism.
Furthermore, the meeting will be to identify the needs of the Sahel’s communities to promote resilience to radicalization and address the conditions under which terrorism thrives or declines. Participants will especially consider the nexus between communities and their authorities (including parliaments) to identify opportunities for effective cooperation to establish prevention measures.
