In early December 2024, the Centre for Innovation Parliament launched the new Guidelines for AI in Parliaments and a comprehensive set of use cases. Developed by parliaments for parliaments, the Guidelines mark an important milestone in the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), supporting parliaments as they embark on their own journey towards using AI. While we expect parliaments to map out their own journey – deciding how much AI to use and how quickly – the Guidelines provide support for that process and can be adapted to suit individual needs.

Thailand offers an interesting example of citizen-initiated legislation. This article describes how this process was used to develop the Clean Air Bill, with insights shared by Ms. Kanongnij Sribuaiam, Vice-Chair of the Clean Air Act Ad hoc Committee, and Ms. Weenarin Lulitanonda, Co-founder of the Thailand Clean Air Network, during a webinar held on 27 September 2024 as part of the IPU-IPEN series on public engagement.

With the reopening of the historic Parliament building in January 2023, an innovative project was launched: the Newsroom of the Parliament of Austria. This modern communication hub is inspired by leading media organizations, offering real-time reporting on parliamentary proceedings. Its central mission is clear: to report objectively, independently and in a way that is accessible to all citizens.
