Working Group on Transparency, Accountability and Openness

The Working Group on Transparency, Accountability and Openness was established by the Governing Council during its 207th Session in May 2021, on the recommendation of the Executive Committee, to oversee the implementation of the recommendations of the Transparency Report presented by an independent consultant in April 2020.

The role of the Working Group is to help the IPU to strengthen and follow up on its commitment to transparency, accountability and openness. For this purpose, the Working Group will help the IPU to further develop and update its resources and implement the recommendations of the above-mentioned report.

Objectives

The Working Group will, inter alia:

  • Review the recommendations set out in the report;
  • Prioritize the measures to be taken in response to the recommendations made by the transparency expert and establish a process for their implementation;
  • Oversee and evaluate this implementation process;
  • Report on progress on a regular basis to the Executive Committee and Governing Council.

The Working Group is composed of six members, one from each geopolitical group selected from within the Executive Committee and subject to parity between men and women. A Chair is elected from among the members. The members of the Working Group shall serve for as long as they are members of the Executive Committee.
