Nearly every country in the world has some form of parliament. Parliamentary systems fall into two categories: bicameral and unicameral. Out of 190 national parliaments in the world, 78 are bicameral (156 chambers) and 112 are unicameral, making a total of 268 chambers of parliament with some 46,000 members of parliament. Organized jointly by the IPU, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), this webinar will promote discussions to: advance gender-responsive socioeconomic policies and legislation; promote evidence-based decision-making; foster collaboration and information-sharing. The webinar is part of a series of IPU regional webinars to advance the implementation of the SDGs. It will serve as a pre-event to the UN ESCAP and ECE Regional Forums on Sustainable Development. It will be open to parliaments, governments and relevant stakeholders in the ECE and ESCAP Member States.
