Parliamentary Conference on the WTO: Webinars in the context of the 12th Ministerial Conference

Summary

In the context of the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the European Parliament will organize parliamentary webinars on Trade and health: Parliamentary perspectives on MC12 and The WTO negotiations agenda at the MC12: Towards a sustainable recovery, which will take place from 14:00 to 16:00 CET (Geneva time) on Monday, 8 and Friday, 12 November.

These two events are part of a longstanding practice – in accordance with the objectives of the Parliamentary Conference on the WTO to support the work of the WTO – of organizing parliamentary session during the Ministerial Conference to provide parliamentary perspectives to its discussions and recommendations.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the challenges related to the promotion of public health and global trade. This points to the imperative of ensuring free and equitable access to medicines and promoting trade growth which is the engine of prosperous economies and the source of well-being of citizens.

The 12th WTO Ministerial Conference is therefore an opportunity to make targeted decisions to address the current health and socioeconomic crisis, which should pave the way to resilient environment.

The two webinars will help to garner parliamentarians’ support to the aforesaid efforts.
