Public participation in parliament and its impact on parliamentary democracy: Strengthening legislation for enhanced governance

Effective public participation in parliament can strengthen governance by enhancing the quality of legislation, improving policy outcomes, fostering citizen trust and enhancing democratic legitimacy.

Co-hosted by the IPU and the Center for Parliamentary Studies and Training (CPST) in the Parliament of Kenya, this webinar will discuss the role of public engagement in parliamentary democracy. In particular, it will examine its impact on legislation, analyse different models of public participation and their effectiveness in various parliamentary systems, and demonstrate good practices that incorporate public input. It will include a focus on the role of Parliamentary Training Institutes (PTIs) in enhancing public participation in parliaments. 

A panel of presentations will be followed by a moderated Q&A and sharing of experiences.
