Regional seminar on climate action for parliaments of Latin America and the Caribbean: Cutting methane emissions

-

Summary

The IPU and the Senate of Chile will jointly host a regional seminar for parliaments of Latin America and the Caribbean focused on strengthening parliamentary action on climate change, with particular attention to methane emissions reduction. Against the backdrop of the current El Niño and rising global temperatures, the seminar will explore how parliaments can respond to growing climate risks while accelerating action on methane – a powerful greenhouse gas responsible for around one third of current warming. Parliamentarians will exchange experiences and consider practical legislative, budgetary and oversight measures across key sectors including agriculture, waste and energy. The two-day event will combine a day of parliamentary discussions with a day of field and cultural visits.

The working language will be Spanish, with English and Portuguese interpretation.
