Nearly every country in the world has some form of parliament. Parliamentary systems fall into two categories: bicameral and unicameral. Out of 190 national parliaments in the world, 78 are bicameral (156 chambers) and 112 are unicameral, making a total of 268 chambers of parliament with some 44,000 members of parliament. Guide to digital transformation in parliaments
This Guide, published by the IPU in partnership with the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP), is designed to inform and educate parliaments about the challenges and opportunities of using digital tools, and provides them with practical examples and support.
The Guide is the result of 18 months of collaboration between the IPU and the ASGP. It is based on data and information collected from 52 parliamentary chambers. It provides a snapshot of how parliaments around the world are harnessing the potential of digitalization to become stronger and more effective institutions.
