The IPU facilitates parliamentary diplomacy and empowers parliaments and parliamentarians to promote peace, democracy and sustainable development around the world.
Nearly every country in the world has some form of parliament. Parliamentary systems fall into two categories: bicameral and unicameral. Out of 190 national parliaments in the world, 78 are bicameral (156 chambers) and 112 are unicameral, making a total of 268 chambers of parliament with some 44,000 members of parliament. IPU membership is made up of 180 national parliaments
Throughout the year, the IPU and its Members organize many events for parliamentarians to exchange good practices, acquire the latest information and identify avenues for action.

The Parliamentary Meeting is the leading event for national parliaments during the COP and is at the forefront of parliamentary efforts to address climate change. The event brings together hundreds of parliamentarians from around the world to chart a course for shared parliamentary solutions to our most pressing climate issues. The meeting is being jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Meeting will be held in the COP Green Zone, alongside the climate negotiations, to further amplify the voice of parliaments in international climate decision-making.
The registration deadline is 10 October 2024.
The IPU and Milli Majlis are not in a position to facilitate accreditation to COP29 and will not be able to support logistical arrangements such as obtaining entry visas to Azerbaijan, accommodation and transportation.
