Parliamentary Session at the UN Youth Townhall: Shaping the future of AI

Heidelberg, Germany

Summary

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming how young people learn, work and participate in society, bringing significant opportunities, as well as challenges for their rights and future. The IPU and the United Nations Youth Office will convene a Parliamentary Session at the inaugural UN Youth Townhall, bringing together young parliamentarians, technology companies, youth leaders, UN experts and other stakeholders to exchange perspectives on how AI can be developed, used and governed in ways that benefit younger generations and society as a whole.

The Session will be an opportunity to:

  • Explore the role of parliaments and young MPs in shaping inclusive and responsible AI governance;
  • Exchange perspectives on AI opportunities and challenges among young MPs, technology companies, youth leaders and experts;
  • Identify shared priorities and avenues for continued cooperation.

To participate, participants must register both for the UN Youth Townhall as a whole and, separately, for the Parliamentary Session on 8 December.

Traditional interpretation will not be available for this session. Instead, the United Nations will provide a dedicated platform offering live AI-generated transcripts of the discussions in all six official UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish). Participants may speak in any of these languages and will be able to follow the discussions in their preferred language by downloading the platform on their own devices.
