The High Level Political Forum (HLPF) is the United Nations’ hub for the global review of progress toward the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The main theme of the 2018 session, under the aegis of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), is “transformation toward sustainable and resilient societies.” While assessing overall progress toward the SDGs, the session will pay special attention to SDGs 6, 7, 11, 12, and 15.

As a contribution to the HLPF, the IPU will hold a parliamentary side event on Monday, 16 July, from 1:15 pm to 2:30 pm. The event is designed as an opportunity for parliamentarians participating in the HLPF to discuss the main theme of the session from the standpoint of SDG 12, on consumption and production patterns. It will take place inside the UN Headquarters (in Conference Room 1).

In addition, and in cooperation with UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), a parliamentary workshop will take place on Tuesday, 17 July, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. The workshop will revolve around the IPU-UNDP self-assessment toolkit to help parliaments institutionalize the SDGs.

For further details on both events, please consult the Documents section on this page.
