Third World Summit of the Committees of the Future

-

Santiago de Chile, Chile

Summary

The Senate of Chile, in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), will host the Third World Summit of the Committees of the Future in Santiago, Chile, on 13 and 14 January 2025. The Summit aims to strengthen the role and integration of anticipatory governance in parliamentary practice.

Parliaments are crucial in ensuring that strategic foresight and anticipatory governance are embedded throughout the entire parliamentary governance framework, guiding policy, legislative processes, oversight functions and decision-making procedures.

The Second World Summit of Committees of the Future, co-organized by the Parliament of Uruguay and the IPU in 2023, focused on artificial intelligence and its potential impact on democracy, human rights and society in general.

The Third World Summit will provide a further platform for in-depth exchange of experience and good practices among parliamentarians. The Summit is expected to be particularly relevant to parliaments that have already committees of the future or similar structures and to parliaments that are considering the creation of such committees.

It takes place alongside the Congreso Futuro, the leading event on scientific dissemination in Latin America, which brings together scientists and experts to examine future problems that society will face.
