The IPU Assembly and related meetings, due to take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on 16-20 April has been cancelled.
This decision has been taken in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and follows a careful risk assessment based on information provided by the World Health Organization and the Swiss authorities.
This exceptional measure aims to contribute to ongoing efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 and safeguard the health and safety of our Members, partners and staff. In light of the drastic measures that are currently in place in many countries around the world, the decision to cancel also seeks to ensure the inclusiveness that our global IPU Assemblies require.
Every effort is being made to ensure the continuity of IPU operations in the months ahead as well as to find alternative ways of doing business and encouraging inter-parliamentary dialogue.
The 142nd IPU Assembly will now take place in Kigali, Rwanda, on 11-15 October 2020.
