Nearly every country in the world has some form of parliament. Parliamentary systems fall into two categories: bicameral and unicameral. Out of 190 national parliaments in the world, 78 are bicameral (156 chambers) and 112 are unicameral, making a total of 268 chambers of parliament with some 44,000 members of parliament. Innovation host
Host for Open data hub innovation hubThis hub is part of the Centre for Innovation in Parliament.
Currently the hub’s main project is the Inter-Parliamentary Open Data Cloud, which aims to build a platform to access legislative documents from multiple jurisdictions. Machine-learning techniques are used to create automated translations of bills and laws, so legislation from multiple countries can be viewed in a single language. Dashboards will enable users to get quick and easy access to relevant topics (see the video).
While the hub engages ‘open data publishing parliaments’ in the Cloud project, it also seeks to promote standards and good practices to those parliaments that aim to publish open data. It does so in cooperation with the other thematic and regional hubs.

The third Transforming Parliaments webinar series will kick off in May. The series is an opportunity for anyone interested in the digital transformation of parliament to exchange experiences with a global community of practice.
On 25 January 2023, the IPU’s Centre for Innovation in Parliament held a webinar as part of the launch of the World e-Parliament Report 2022. The event looked at how the period of “enforced innovation” brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic had affected parliamentary working methods and practices.
