Issue 23

In this issue, we look at how parliamentarians can engage with citizen science platforms, using the lens of human security. We also gain insights into the artificial intelligence (AI) journey of the House of Commons of Canada, and into how it is putting a human-centred approach first. Additionally, we explore how the Chamber of Deputies of Chile is supporting parliaments in Latin America with AI solutions for parliamentary archiving, having digitally transformed its own archives. This issue also includes updates on Centre for Innovation in Parliament (CIP) hubs and activities.

Members of the planning group of the Southern Africa Regional Hub met in early August 2025 to discuss restarting the hub’s knowledge-exchange activities, including through a series of webinars. There was broad agreement on the focus of such activities going forward, namely AI and its adoption in Southern African parliaments – which comes with its own set of opportunities and challenges.

The first event in this series, which was reserved for hub members only, took place on 16 September 2025. It focused on AI-powered transcription. Regional examples were showcased and the IPU’s new quick guide was presented.
