Nearly every country in the world has some form of parliament. Parliamentary systems fall into two categories: bicameral and unicameral. Out of 190 national parliaments in the world, 78 are bicameral (156 chambers) and 112 are unicameral, making a total of 268 chambers of parliament with some 44,000 members of parliament. December 2023 Webinar on Parliamentary Engagement on CEDAW
Summary
The webinar is aimed at supporting parliaments in taking action for enhanced implementation of CEDAW. It will serve to provide information on the Convention and State reporting process; facilitate peer-to-peer exchanges among MPs and their interaction with CEDAW Committee members; and identify any targeted support that might be required from the IPU.
Prior to the webinar, parliamentarians are invited to peruse the second edition of the handbook for parliamentarians on the CEDAW Convention and its Optional Protocol, which provides detailed guidance and concrete examples of parliamentary action to implement CEDAW.
