At its 84th session, scheduled to be held in Geneva from 6 to 24 February 2023, the CEDAW Committee will hold a half-day of general discussion on Equal and inclusive representation of women in decision-making systems, in partnership with the IPU and UN Women.

The purpose of the discussion is to prepare for the drafting by the CEDAW Committee of a new General Recommendation on the equal and inclusive representation of women in decision-making systems (GR 40). The aim of GR 40 will be to provide guidance to States parties to the Convention on the measures they should adopt to ensure full compliance with their obligations to respect, protect and fulfil women’s human right to equal and inclusive representation in decision-making systems.

During the half-day of general discussion, time will be allocated for oral statements both in person and via remote participation. All interested stakeholders wishing to make a statement must indicate their intention to do so and must send their statements electronically in Word format to Ms. Céline Georgi (email: [email protected]) by 17 February 2023 at the latest, indicating whether you will be delivering your statement in person or remotely. Statements must not exceed 3 minutes.
