Making trade work for the environment: The role of parliamentarians- WTO Public Forum

Summary

For over twenty years now the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the European Parliament have been leading the Parliamentary Conference on the World Trade Organization (PCWTO) – an ongoing process to mobilize parliamentary engagement in the work of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and enhance implementation of global trade commitments. As representatives of the people, parliamentarians have a prerogative to provide a meaningful contribution to the promotion of trade and ensure it is beneficial to all.

The WTO’s annual public events, including the WTO Public Forum, are designed for participants representing governments, parliaments, the civil society, the business sector, academia and the media to reflect upon the functioning of the multilateral trading system and explore avenues to strengthen global trade as an engine of resilient economies.

This year's WTO Public Forum will be held from 12 to 15 September on the WTO premises in Geneva (Centre William Rappard) under the overall theme It is time for action.

Detailed information on the Public Forum, including logistic arrangements (visa, hotels and transportation in Geneva) is available here.

The WTO Secretariat will provide interpretation in English, French and Spanish
