The IPU facilitates parliamentary diplomacy and empowers parliaments and parliamentarians to promote peace, democracy and sustainable development around the world.
Nearly every country in the world has some form of parliament. Parliamentary systems fall into two categories: bicameral and unicameral. Out of 190 national parliaments in the world, 78 are bicameral (156 chambers) and 112 are unicameral, making a total of 268 chambers of parliament with some 44,000 members of parliament. IPU membership is made up of 180 national parliaments
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) was constituted under the United Nations Charter to help nations settle disputes peacefully in accordance with international law.
Throughout the year, the IPU and its Members organize many events for parliamentarians to exchange good practices, acquire the latest information and identify avenues for action.

When ChatGPT was launched in late 2022, the world changed. The development and deployment of large language models are rapidly changing how the world works and have generated a huge amount of public attention on artificial intelligence. However, the technical nature of the topic can present a knowledge gap for parliamentarians.
In this session, you will learn the basics of what artificial intelligence is, which new technologies are impacting the world, how they are developed and how they are deployed.
This session is part of the series of capacity-building Workshops for parliamentarians on AI, in preparation for the forthcoming IPU resolution on The impact of artificial intelligence on democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
Participation is open to all parliamentarians and parliamentary staff. No prior knowledge of AI is needed. Interpretation will be provided in English, French and Spanish.
