The IPU’s latest World e-Parliament Report will be publicly launched at an online event on 25 January 2023. The report shows how parliaments have changed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and recommends that parliaments learn lessons for the future from the experience.

About the 2022 World e-Parliament Report

The pandemic heralded an unprecedented wave of digital innovation and parliaments now have a unique opportunity to modernize, transforming into more flexible, open and responsive institutions. The report highlights the strategic gains already realized and reinforces the earlier finding (from the 2020 World e-Parliament Report) that the pandemic was a catalyst for new and transformational digital practices. Digital tools have shown themselves to be vital for parliaments that want to become more resilient and responsive to the conditions around them.

Launch webinar

The launch webinar will focus what has changed for parliamentarians with the introduction of hybrid working methods. Report author Andy Williamson will present the key data, findings and recommendations. In the first part of the webinar, a panel of MPs and academics will discuss what these mean for parliaments in the future and whether hybrid parliaments can be more gender-sensitive and responsive to the needs of men and women parliamentarians. The second part will focus on the report’s recommendation to carry out a formal inquiry to learn lessons from the pandemic and to prepare parliament for the future, illustrated by practical examples from parliaments.
